MDM – Mobile Device Management – is a device lifecycle management technology that enables the IT team to implement, configure, manage, service and secure mobile devices through MDM profiles installed on devices. The MDM software provides a set of resources, remote configuration of e-mail, applications and Wi-Fi, remote problem solving and the ability to remotely lock and wipe to secure the device and company data stored on it. MDM is the basis of a comprehensive enterprise mobility management solution.
MAM technologies – Management of Mobile Applications – apply management and policy controls to individual applications instead of to the entire device. MAM solutions usually offer a custom application store that allows you to control and deliver applications developed internally as well as third-party applications. IT administrators can add security, encryption and control to mobile applications by using the AppConfig Community standards or the Software Development Kit or App Wrapping solutions from the MAM provider.
EMM – Enterprise Mobility Management – is a device and platform independent solution that centralises the management, configuration and security of all devices in the organization, both those used in the BYOD model and the company model. EMM goes beyond traditional device management and includes management and configuration of the application and company content. The comprehensive EMM solution includes MDM, MAM, MCM (Mobile Content Management), identity management for access control and productivity applications to facilitate access to corporate e-mail, calendar, contacts, content repositories and intranet sites. A well-chosen EMM solution should provide both technical capabilities to simplify management as well as security for the IT team, as well as pleasant use for the employee.
UEM – Unified Endpoint Management – allows the IT team to stop using separate tools for managing mobile, traditional and IoT devices. UEM solutions provide a comprehensive and user-centric approach to managing all endpoints by combining traditional client management with desktop and PC using a modern Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform. A comprehensive UEM solution enables the IT team to manage users and provide consistent experience at all endpoints, secure and manage the entire device lifecycle and make all of it using one comprehensive platform.
BYOD – Bring Your Own Device – is a principle in the IT industry that allows employees to use their own devices for business purposes. EMM platforms allow organizations to implement BYOD strategies without compromising employee safety and privacy at the risk of separating company and personal data on the device. This separation allows the IT team to manage and secure only business data on the device owned by the employee. If the device is ever endangered or when the employee leaves the company, the IT team has the option of removing only work-related data and leaving personal items on the device intact.
The Active Sync or IMAP / POP mail profiles that are used in the Samsung Knox activation will require the Samsung Mail application. If we want to set up a mail profile on Android Enterprise Profile Owner or Android Enterprise Device Owner activation, we can do it via application configuration.
Apple’s supervised iOS mode provides administrators with more options when managing Apple devices, which is useful for large-scale company-owned devices. For example, you can restrict the AirDrop function, prevent users from changing the device name, or apply application rules. To add a device in supervised mode, Apple Business Manager profiles must be configured or used Apple Configurator. In iOS 11 support for Apple Business Manager devices that are not supervised was deprecated. In iOS 11 and later, Apple Business Manager configured devices should always be supervised. And in a future release, the OS will ignore the Apple Business Manager is_supervised flag completely.
After the device is activated, applications from the device are automatically added to the system. The user also has the option adding an application.
The Device Enrollment Program can be obtained through resellers. A list of resellers can be found on this site.
